The Larder - Queen’s Medical Reseach Institute (QMRI)

The newly refurbished ‘Larder’ space within the QMRI building on the BioQuarter campus.

A collaboration project between the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) and Accommodation, Catering and Events (ACE), creating a dynamic communal space to connect, unwind and refuel with friends, colleagues and professional partners.  

Key Design Features

  • Sustainable design to construct and furnish the project introducing lot of natural materials which include ash bespoke joinery throughout, terrazzo worktops made from recycled plastic, stone tiles and pinnable cork wall tiles 
  • Variety of furniture to create zones to support the different space uses
  • Collaboration with local enterprise business to provide furniture, ‘Move on Wood’
  • Bespoke wall mural and artefacts displayed in partnership with FUSION Art 
  • Biophilic design with real plants and trough planters throughout
  • Fixed and occasional lighting to create a soft, relaxing atmosphere.
